Hypermobility & EDS Gold Coast

At Artistic Sports Physiotherapy, we offer specialised care for individuals with more than average mobility. This includes generalised joint hypermobility, connective tissue disorders and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). We understand the unique challenges these conditions present, and tailor our physiotherapy approach to support your needs.

What is Hypermobility & EDS?

Hypermobility means your joints move beyond the normal expected range of motion. For some people this is simply a trait with no symptoms, but for others it’s linked to joint pain, instability, frequent sprains, fatigue, and difficulty building strength in a way that “sticks.” Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a group of connective tissue disorders where hypermobility is often one of several features, alongside skin, vascular, or other systemic symptoms. Because hypermobility exists on a spectrum, it can take time — and the right team — to understand exactly where you sit and what support you need.

With our strong background in treating hypermobile athletes, dancers, and gymnasts, we are uniquely positioned to provide expert care to the hypermobile community across the Gold Coast.

How We Treat Hypermobility & EDS

We focus on controlled strengthening, neuromuscular training, and gentle conditioning to build resilience and body awareness. Working closely with each client allows us to develop an individualised program and treatment plan built around your specific joints, symptoms, and goals, whether that’s returning to sport, dance, or everyday activity with more confidence and less pain.

With hypermobility & EDS, we understand the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and collaborate with other health professionals when needed to ensure comprehensive care. Physiotherapy assessment is part of the multidisciplinary process that helps with your diagnosis. There are many tests that determine which classification of hypermobility or connective tissue disorder you fit into, often requiring a specialist assessment alongside your physiotherapy care.

Inclusive Care for Everyone

Our clinic is proud to provide a welcoming, safe, and respectful space for everyone. We celebrate diversity and are committed to inclusive care for people of all backgrounds. Whether you are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, neuro-divergent, or from a culturally diverse background, we treat you with dignity, understanding, and compassion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hypermobility describes joints that move beyond the typical range of motion — it can occur on its own or as one feature of a broader condition. EDS is a group of genetic connective tissue disorders where hypermobility is often present alongside other symptoms, such as skin fragility or vascular issues. A proper diagnosis usually requires specialist assessment, though physiotherapy plays an important role in the process.

Physiotherapy assessment is an important part of the multidisciplinary process, but a formal EDS diagnosis typically requires assessment by a specialist. We can help identify signs of hypermobility, guide you toward the right referrals, and support your treatment and management either way.

We assess your joint range of motion, strength, and movement patterns, then build a program focused on controlled strengthening, neuromuscular training, and gentle conditioning — tailored to the joints and symptoms affecting you most.

No. While we see many hypermobile dancers, gymnasts, and performers, hypermobility and EDS affect people across all walks of life. Our approach is tailored to your individual needs, whatever brought you in. We have helped diagnosed individuals later in their life, those who have had symptoms but no explanation throughout their lives. It is a wonderful experience to see all the dots finally connect after spending years of dealing with a range of trivial physical conditions.
